North Brooklyn Community Toybrary
A library for toys!
What is a Toybrary?
A toybrary is exactly what it sounds like — a place for borrowing and returning toys.
It allows a community to share resources, connect with one another, and reduce waste by avoiding the cycle of buying inexpensive toys that are quickly outgrown or discarded.
In the spirit of Baby Hui, sidewalk free boxes, and Buy Nothing groups, the North Brooklyn Community Toybrary aims to institutionalize this culture of sharing, making it easier for families to access high-quality toys while building community and supporting more sustainable play.
How it works
1. Become a member
Membership is completely free.
2. Browse and reserve
See which toys are available and reserve up to 5 toys at a time.
3. Pick up
Pick up your toys at your scheduled date and time.
4. Play time
Keep your toys for up to 4 weeks.
5. Return and repeat
Return toys in the same condition in which they were received — then reserve again!
support the toybrary
If you’re interested in supporting the North Brooklyn Community Toybrary aka NBK Toybrary, there are 4 main ways you can help!
BORROW TOYS!
The most important way to use us is to borrow (and return!) our toys.
STAY IN TOUCH
We would love to stay in touch as we grow. Sign up for our mailing list or follow us on Instagram to stay connected.
TOY DONATION
We are currently in a pilot phase and are operating out of a private home. As such, toy donations are being accepted on a limited basis. We are especially looking for high quality, battery-free toys without a large space footprint. As demand grows, we will prioritize sourcing toys that are most in demand. Email us (nbktoybrary@gmail.com) or send a message to learn if your previously loved toy is right for our library!
FINANCIAL SUPPORT
As we serve the North Brooklyn community, we hope to also be supported by the same. If you are interested in supporting us financially, THANK YOU! While we hope to become a non-profit in the future, we first operating without any formal status to explore whether this effort is of interest to the community. For legal reasons, we are not yet accepting monetary donations but hope to do so in the near future.
