Welcome to the North Brooklyn Community Toybrary (NBK Toybrary)! Our goal is to create a shared space where families can access great toys, reduce waste, and support one another. By participating, members agree to the following guidelines, which help keep our community safe, respectful, and running smoothly.
1. Supervision & Safety
Members are responsible for the supervision and safety of children at all times when using borrowed toys.
Please use toys as intended and choose items that are appropriate for your child’s age and abilities.
NBK Toybrary does not assume liability for any injury or damages resulting from toy use.
We encourage members to use their own judgment and research when selecting toys.
2. Borrowing & Returns
Toys should be picked up within one week of reservation so they can be enjoyed by your family—and others. Unclaimed items will be returned to circulation.
Toys may be borrowed for up to four weeks. Extensions are generally not available, but we understand that things come up—please reach out before the due date if needed.
Pickups and returns take place during open hours. If hours are reduced in a given week, returns may be made during the next available open time.
If a piece goes missing, we appreciate your continued effort to find it, even after returning the toy—it often turns up!
3. Toy Care & Condition
Please take a moment to inspect toys at pickup and before use, and let us know if anything is missing or damaged.
While a toy is with you, we ask that you care for it as you would your own.
Toys should be returned clean and in a similar condition so the next family can enjoy them.
We understand that toys can break and pieces can go missing. To help us continue as a shared community resource, we ask members to consider making a donation to help replace items when damage or loss affects a toy’s usability.
4. Community Expectations
Our Toybrary is built on trust and shared responsibility. We ask all members to treat one another with kindness and respect.
Aggressive or inappropriate behavior is not permitted.
5. Membership & Accountability
These guidelines help keep the Toybrary running for everyone. Failure to follow them may result in suspension or termination of membership.
NBK Toybrary operates through volunteer time and community support. While membership is currently free, we may explore future funding options—such as membership fees, nonprofit status, overdue fees, fundraising, or small borrowing fees—to sustain operations. We are committed to keeping the Toybrary accessible and will aim to always offer free or reduced-cost options for families facing financial hardship.
Thank you for being part of this community and helping make the NBK Toybrary a welcoming resource for all!
NBK Toybrary reserves the right to update these Rules & Guidelines at any time to support the continued success and fairness of the program.
